To add: many blup guides are based on the principle of training the 2nd and 3rd skill, that means fully training skill 2 and 3, max out the rides (forest/mountain) that increase skill 2 and/or 3 (but NOT skill 1) and doing the competitions that increase skill 2 and 3.
*After* you got your 20 wins, you train skill 1, max out the other rides and age to 10, and there is your 100 blup. Skill 1-2-3 will be in bold letters on the horse's page then.
The reason is that with a low skill 1, you get easier comps and thus you go faster to your 20 wins.

After the 100 blup you can train the other skills if you like. You can also do beach rides to make the highest skill even higher, that can be important for rosette comps and Grand Prix.
But both these are not needed for the blup.

And for clearity: Dr Zig is a respected and very experienced Howrse player with a very helpful EC forum who has good blupping schedules.
So I don't understand the thumbs-down on that answer.
