Barbie was a golden dun with a beautiful black and cherry brown striped mane and tail, and her legs were covered in black zebra stripes, but she was a purebred quarter horse. She stood at 15.5 hands, and had the sweetest eyes of any horse i have ever seen. She was born in 2011 and passed away July 17th, 2017. Her grave is on the ranch property in San Diego, CA, where all who knew her could visit her.

A fat, grey little shetland gelding I fell off of every other day. I still have a Polaroid of him. I'm sure he has passed by now, but he was such a little character.

So I don't know if I told you much about my horses that I grew up with, but I had some sad news from my aunt and uncle who gave us our pony Davy when my sister and I were 7 and 5. Davy is about 30 years old I would guess off the top of my head, but since Shetlands have been known to live as long as late 30's that's no surprise. He'd had some minor colic issues the past few days, and my uncle had been medicating him regularly with mineral oil and water, butte, walking, etc. Well Davy was looking like he would pull through last evening when my uncle went to bed, but he was gone this morning. They came out to find Charlie their other pony watching over him default smiley :'( he lived a good long life and brought joy to three generations of Donohue's, Loveall's, Anderson's, and more school kids who took pony rides on our dairy farm tours than I can count. We was loved by all, and will be missed by all. I loved him dearly, and am surprised by the emotion I feel since he was a good friend but was more my cousin's daughter's pony than mine anymore. He was one of the few Shetland Poinies who wasn't bad tempered. The worst he ever did was a little crow hop to get us off so he could go see the neighbor's horse. He had a wildly thick mane that was a magnet to burrs. He was a chocolate palomino, similar to the silver palomino of a Rocky Mountain horse but with darker brown, dappled, and a silver mane and tail. He was happy to see everyone, and his plucky attitude made everyone excited to see him. I love you Davy, thank you for many years of friendship and joy, RIP.
Mine was my aunts quarter horse named Misty default smiley (l)

When I was eight or nine, the first horse I ever rode was a little fleabitten mustang named Holly. I didn't realized I rode her without a bit until I saw a picture of her and I riding the other day.
Guitar, my mom's Oldenberg mare that she rode and showed until she was 8mo pregnant with me! In her diary she says something about the last show at 8mo pregnant, "I decided to take a break from riding now just to be safe for the baby!" Now she says that as an infant she had to speedwalk and bounce me HARD to get me to fall asleep. default smiley <:o)
Out of the womb I don't know what horse would have been the first one she set me on, but I do know also from mum's diary that the first horse I met face to face was a roan.

The first horse I rode belonged to my grandparents' neighbors. His name was Searchlight, and he kept trying to point himself back toward the barn.

The second and third horses I rode I don't remember the names of, but they were trail ride horses at a wilderness retreat. Second kept trying to turn around and snap at the horse behind him.
Third behaved better... until the end of the ride. Then he spooked and ran past a pine tree - or maybe through would be a better word? - and got snow down my shirt. Everybody was like, "Are you okay?!" and I was just grinning my head off, going, "That was INTERESTING!" At least one person was impressed that I didn't fall off.
I haven't fallen off a horse yet, but that's probably because I don't get much opportunity...
