Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Anytime before the age of 25 years, and before the pony has done the daily lesson/mission. I usually age to around 20, then use all the Cloud Pieces at once.

Really nice pony, by the way default smiley :)
Just bumping since it was at the bottom:
What do you guys think I should do with this cross?
Paint Bucket
What should I add in? I don't mind if it's an allrounder or certain skill, just wondering what it would be good with and for.

still unanswered, any ideas for a good lippizzinner cross in xc or jumping?
By Retired breeder, 11th February 2016 12:44:22

I would go for a stamina breed like G. Vanner.
By Retired breeder, 11th February 2016 13:26:29

For XC you would need to boost jumping, and for show jumping you would need to boost speed.

The usual KWPN or Selle Francais might work, or the high jumping ponies like Shetland or Australian pony. For speed boost there is also Mustang, though that would bring dressage down, so that might not be a good mix.

XC- Selle Français and/or Gypsy Vanner
Jump: Selle Français and/or Australian Pony

Hey everyone! I just got started a few days ago, and I am working on breeding pure Knabstruppers, though I am considering doing crosses as well.

Does anyone know of any great crosses with Knabstruppers? If I were to do a cross, any recommendations?

Right now, my focus is dressage, but I am open to other disciplines as well.

If you mean Dressage Comp, you could try a bit of Lusitano.

With Knabs, I'd focus more on trail comps since their skillset matches up better there . . .

Really? I guess I didn't realize that. I already focused my two adult horses on classical, so maybe I'll try trot and show jumping comps, since when I checked the GP excellency stars, that is where they are supposed to excel at.

Should I stick with classical for my foals, or would it be better to try trail?

What would be a good cross if I were to focus on trot/jump?

If you go with Trail, you'll probably want a bit of Noko to give it a GP boost (but try to keep it Knab dominate). If I'm not mistaken, Knabs and Nokos have the exact same skill set.

Well, I mentioned that my All American horse is essentially finished a few weeks ago: World's Finale & World's End. I may breed them a bit more to pure Morgans, just to up that breed. But I consider it finished.

I'm almost done with my All Breed and this is the latest foal: Morgan 16 default smiley :d

Although trot and jumping are among its best skills, that doesn't mean it will necessarily excel in trot and SJ comps. Comps rely on 2 other skills, not just the primary skill. Since Knabs have pretty poor speed, they are unlikely to excel in either trot or SJ comps.

They do, but Nokos are vastly superior to Knabs in terms of trail comps. If you look at their breed details in the directories, you'll see that Nokos have a higher distribution of dressage, trot, and jump.

Exactly, which is why if they want a Trail Knab, it'd be good to get some Noko blood to boost the skills and GP. But keep it Knab dominate as Nokos dominate breed only Noko and I think even public Trail comps.

For what? If you make it chinco dominant, you'd do extremely well in chinco-only jump comps. In open, not so much.
I'm looking to do a Mustang dominant cross. Any ideas?

Wow. This is a lot more complicated than I thought. Would someone be willing to take a look at my horses and give me advice on how I should train them and what comps to enter?

Also, is there any articles/forums I can check out for more information?

Other than trail, what classical comps would my Knabs be best at?

The best way you're going to learn is by looking at the skillsets necessary for a certain comp and then comparing it to the skillset of your horse.

Notbob's forum has a lot of good information on crosses, such as how to calculate percentages or how to determine what breed your cross will be. She likely has other Howrse-related stuff but I only go there for the cross references.

Knabs honestly aren't good for anything but trail. You can try entering them in dressage but their gallop is a bit too low.

I've always wanted to try a cutting horse with Mustang in it, but it would take a bit of fingaling to get their dressage up. Mustangs have low stamina, which is good for low level cutting, but if you want to win you would need to maintain speed and boost dressage. Maybe try a Crio, just for the heck of it?

Actually they have high stamina (I was thinking of gallop lol) so if you want to win cutting you would definitely need to boost dressage while maintaining a decent speed.

So Mustang x Crio x something with good dressage? Hmm.. I'll have a think tomorrow. I like being back in the crossbreeding business!

Crios are good in dressage (they need it for cutting) so their good stamina and dressage combined with Mustang's speed should give you something interesting. And yay! Me too, although it has caused a direct hit to my item inventory default smiley (lol)
