Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Finally BLUPed this girl that I got from the sales. Will breed her once I find a suitable stallion. I'd love to use tears on her baby's baby. ^.^

I'm curious, both the father and the mother are 50/50, with the dominant breed of KWPN. How are my babies all Selles?

That's super strange....
I'm going to draw a fam tree to look at it easier.

I think I might have got it... it's either a glitch, or it's something to do with the inbreeding.
Because the foals father is Kisses father, the Selle has come in twice, making it 50%
It still doesn't really explain Kisses though... hang on.

I think Kisses should be 25% selle and 75% KW

I'm kind of lost. default smiley (lol)

Is is because the paternal granddam was 100% Selle?

Maybe, but then he was bred to a 100% KW I think. Lemme add that to my tree.

I think I've got it! XD I'm way too keen about this, but it's super interesting. I went a little further back, and there is a ton of inbreeding going on.

I hope you can read my writing, sorry. Anywhere where it says Seren or Cere or something like that, it's Serendipity and Ceres.

So as you can see, there's quite a bit of Selle coming through from Ceres.

hello, i'm still new to howrse and i wanted to do a crossbreeding experiment with this tennessee walker mare: http://www.howrse.com/elevage/chevaux/cheval?id=47067040 that i recently blup'd and i was wondering, from your more experienced opinions, what a good cross would be? thank you so much in advance!

* wrong link, sincerest apologies http://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=47067040

Depends what kind of comp horse you want default smiley (y)

That's actually the correct link default smiley ;)
It all depends on what you want, but I would say maybe add in some Thoroughbred to improve the Gallop. Paint would also be interesting. If you wanted a good trot horse, Icelandics, Standardbreds, TWH, Hackney's and.... one more that I've forgotten are all good.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's all to do with the inbreeding.

Nice detective work @ bonnietessa, but it's much more simpler than that.

In a cross like that, the foals will most often take after the breed of their father's mother, and that is that. I have seen it happen with dozens of crossbred foals. Sometimes the result is different, depending on the order in which the breeds are listed on the father's page, but I don't remember what the rule was with that.

Inbreeding has nothing to do with it.
By Retired breeder, 10th February 2016 09:27:12
Adding to above: I though the rule was that the foal will be the breed that is listed second on the father's page, but that's not the case with these foals, so I must remember it wrong.
Haha, thanks!

Oh okay. I didn't so much mean the inbreeding, but more that there is Selle higher up in the tree that I didn't realise was there. Serendipity and Ceres obviously had a lot of impact on the foal, as well as its father.

It was sort of fun doing that default smiley (m)

@ bonnietessa it was a very good logical conclusion, unfortunately the game code itself is not all that logical at times default smiley (lol)

The second listed in the sire I think applies to crosses that are not the same breeds. If they're the same breeds, regardless of ordering, it'll be the paternal grandam. So frustrating sometimes when breeding two 50/50s default smiley xd
