Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

Crud I fail default smiley xd

Please work!!!
By Retired breeder, 22nd November 2011 07:16:33
Man I want to skill another dressage horse, but I also need these passes for my purebred Mars... :\
By Retired breeder, 22nd November 2011 07:21:54
Nice, nice cross, Twilight!

Bleh, blupping work, sans any passes, which means I'm not going to be able to skip ahead like I'd love to… Good news is that in a week or so, I may have new purebred stock coming in, and hopefully some good can come of that. I really want to blup some of my crossbreds; try breeding a PSP to one of my Morgan/Iberian crosses, maybe a PSP to one of my Morgan/TB crosses (first go with a four-way cross!). Maybe breed one of my PSP mares to one of the top TB public covers, too.

That does make me wonder; in a four-way cross, what determines dominant breed? I'm still quite new at this; I am curious. I know two-way, pure vs pure crosses, the foal takes after the sire, and in two-way crosses with uneven blood, the top percent takes it… But in an even four-versus-four, who does the foal take after?
By Retired breeder, 22nd November 2011 07:59:24
Usually a four-way cross is dominated by the sire's dam, but sometimes there's that 0.0000001% of another breed that makes it come out on top. For example, I bred a Lusi/Fry mare to a Morgan/Shet stud and expected it to come out Shet because that's the sire's dam's breed, but the foal came out Morgan instead.
By Retired breeder, 22nd November 2011 08:04:11
Huh. Well then, this should be most interesting! Sounds like an interesting cross, that one you bred.
By Retired breeder, 22nd November 2011 08:21:51
Ha ha oh yes the cross was quite interesting indeed. An Arab/Morgan/Shet cross is even better (in my opinion, with the redonkulously high stamina/dressage/jump considering that it's a cross); I want to rebreed with Tears but that requires me skilling my 74* Arab filly and I need those passes for other things, default smiley xd
Fifth....there is no need to breed with tears unless you want a ridiculously highly skilled cross...I have a set of 393 crosses and I bought a 391 debating whther to skill or quick blup them. I know one of the paint/ standies will be used a skillor for trot/ dressage comps

Thing is, if I breed the 74* Arab filly with Xello's Morgan/Shet with Tears I'd get an amazing cross country Prixer. I already know what the cross will look like; I just want to redo it with Tears so that I can get a really nice skiller. And oh god I hate debating whether to skill or BLUP a horse, especially if it's a Teared foal but you now have ones with better skills/GP.

Well it's been a really long time since I was last here and going back through some of the pages I'm amazed by how good (and unusual) the crosses have been. I've not been working on my crosses for a while but over the last few days I've had a bit of time on my hands.

I'm A Star!!! is the first one I did and the next one will be Top Notch!!

I hope you guys like them as I'm pretty pleased default smiley (lol)

i do not get why people want to breed with tears i used to breed paint and arab with them but not with my cross bread they are really bad skiller like This one
really bad skill but won over 30 comps in jump
By Retired breeder, 22nd November 2011 19:04:21
Not all crossbreds are bad skillers. If you have high quality 100 BLUP horses and you know what kind of cross you'll get you can breed real nice skillers using Tears. But it really depends on how good you want your horses to be. Whether you want to breed with Tears or not is your perogative, but using Tears with 100 BLUP horses results in real nice horses, no matter if they're purebred or crossbred.

Hello!

I just recently got back into howrse (I took a very long break due to real life)!

I'm trying to get into Cross Breeding so I thought this'd be the perfect place to start!
By Retired breeder, 22nd November 2011 20:15:29
shianner - i no horses come out great with tears but most player do not have high passes like them player do so not everone can just have to make the best of what they have
By Retired breeder, 22nd November 2011 20:21:19
Okay, I have a question, how does the cross breeding differ from purebred breeding besides the fact that your crossing breeds for higher GP?
By Retired breeder, 22nd November 2011 20:30:20
@Horses R My Life there are always ways to get passes/Tears without BUYING passes, but you don't absolutely *need* Tears to get a good horse. What you need is to get 100 BLUP horses to breed horses with +200 IBS. That's all it really takes to get good horses.

And you don't need to go sour grapes just because some people are able to purchase passes and others can't.

@horrorfan Xellossnut has a good intro to cross breeding guide in her forum. Also crossbreds tend to have lower GP than purebreds, but their skill sets can change dramatically depending on what you crossed and what you're crossing for. And occasionally you can get a cross foal with higher stars than its parents.
horrorfan ~So you want to start crossing breeding huh.

Here I have written a few things that might help with people that want to get started but am not sure where to begin. Hope it helps anyone out that is interested in crossing.

The first thing I tell people that are interested in crossbreeding is to NOT start crossbreeding just yet.

Instead take some time to plan out what you would be interested in doing.

Some of my favorite areas to look in are the rankings, sales sections and horse directories.

My first stop normally is the horse rankings and checking out which breeds I might be interested in. Just snooping around and seeing what is out there.

Once i have picked a breed I go and look at the skills ranking and see what the breed make up of the horses in it are. Seeing if its something I want to copy with better stock or just improve over all by doing a different type of cross.

Then I go and look in the sales at the natural body styles of the horse and see if its one I truely want to spend time looking at. I hate some of the body styles in the game so stay away from them unless I need them for a quick cross.

I also look in the directories to see what the breeds skill sets are suppose to be to then compare them to what the horse in the rankings are.

Such as say the Russian don jump horse. Is the #1 horse a RD/hano cross or something different for really good jump.

things like that.

Now mostly my goal in the game is to annoy people in the rankings for my own amusement. I like dropping horses down a peg or two at times just for fun. You of course don't have to do that but It makes me smile LOL.

Once you have decided on the breed you want to work towards decide if you may want to do a 2 way cross 3 way or even a 4 way. Just depends on what you think would be best.

as your working your horse start saving up your BM items or whatever you want to use to blup the horse up properly when done.

That is what I like to do.

Others breed for all stars or prix rankings for certain horses. Me I normally just do rankings cause its easy for me to do.

I own all the top #1 skill ranked Friesians in the game other then dressage and elite. Those are my babies though I should start thinking about replacing a couple of them. Some are starting to get a bit old.

If you have any other questions about crossing this is the place to do it.

Welcome to crossbreeding.

Good luck and happy howrsing.
