The Great Challenge & Derby are back!

Great Challenge - Derby

Complete objectives during the first phase to win Horseshoes and collect prizes. During the second phase, the festivities, we’re happy to bring back the derby!

First phase will run from today through 2019-09-11 12:00~!

Second phase will start 2019-09-11 12:00 and it ends 2019-09-16 14:00!

Great Challenge Phase

Click to display
During this phase, you will be given three (3) tasks each day to complete. By completing them you will win horseshoes that can grant you:

Game items that are added to your account immediately, once the threshold is met

A commercial offer to get the divine horse more easily after the festivities start.

Hint: The tasks for the contest are in addition to the usual daily tasks.

As with previous editions, you have 3 days to finish the objectives given before they disappear.

You can help other players once you have realized all three goals for the day. If it is the first time of the day that a player helps another player, they unlock a bonus item that they will receive at the beginning of the festivities.

To help players complete their objectives, they can :

skip the objective by giving a Black Market item to Ow

ask for help from other players by giving Equus, for the 3rd* objective of the day

VIP players can try to win the Jackpot Friggja in the Titan’s Challenge before anyone else.

They benefit from the commercial offers on divine fragments immediately when they unlock them.

Festivities (Derby) Phase

During this phase, you can participate in horse races where the automatic race option has also made its way back for a cost of equus.

At the start of the day, you can get a free race entry based off the community goal during the Great Challenge phase, but after the free entries they cost equus (which increases with each run).

How does the derby work?

Choose one of four colored horses whose names, Clover, Lucky, Warrior, and Champion. Use your mouse to launch the ball (Tip: the speed it’s thrown depends upon the length of time the mouse button is held).

Continue to launch balls to reach the finish line and win flags that you can use in the derby shop.

You can use the bonus item to help win the race as well. But, how do I get a bonus?

when helping other players during the Great Challenge part

when asking some to my friends (by giving Equus, and in a limited quantity). (And players can offer some to their friends who have asked for them, with a limit of 1 per friend per day)

when winning competitions with horses

from special UFOs

when buying BM items with passes (except for Black Pearl and Aging points items)

is a Pegasus whose gift is a Hestia's Gift!

During the Great Challenge phase, VIP players can try to win this divine via the Titan’s Challenge. After the festivities (aka Derby) starts, everyone can try to find the divine in this luck item.

Tester’s Tips

Here’s what some of our testers suggestions for playing this event:

Alisska mentions: “Look at all of your objectives before you start working with your horses and decide what will be the easiest way to complete them.”

laliho’s strategy idea is: “Wait to unlock all the promotion offers on Fragments before trying your luck on the Titan's Challenge.”

maritxu13 says: “Wait to unlock all the promotion offers on Fragments before trying your luck on the Titan's Challenge.”

A few of our other testers also suggested trying the following:

For "Finish last in 3 competitions", use a sick horse. Greyfell is a great option too!

For "Enter a competition using between 16 and 17% energy", check dressage.

Best Wishes,
The Howrse Team

Hello,
What is the Automated race?

Automated means it runs the entire race without you needing to pull the little ball thing approximately 9 times to get to the finish line. It's vastly too expensive, there is no guarentee you will place first, and you cannot use your bonuses (if you have them).

It took me 13 Titan challenges to get friggja. I got the free one on the last default smiley (lol) one. I got the free fragments in the derby until it went up to 160. I think about 300 free fragments. I have never got pass level 5. I stop at first prize I want usually. I received 2 harmony packs,Helios Ray and a ma. About 50 frag ents each time if you have multiplier

So far the animation is not even passable.

Also the prices for the races are way too high. N00b player here, I have less than 20k in reserve because I have spent my equus in horses and horse stuff (which is the point of the game, isn't it?). Spending more than 1 000 eq for the right to play a single race and maybe, *maybe*, _maybe_ make 11 flags.... it is insane.

If the animation was not jerky, you could aim the ball and the prices for the races were sane, this promo would improve a lot imo, even if there were less prizes or they were harder to get.

Howrse is a game where it's very hard to build up from new. Believe it or not we have all been there! Right or wrong, it's the way it is. (I complained and got told this when I was new too...)

There's no way to aim the ball: it's random. I'm sure I read somewhere that the speed it goes at responds to how long you hold it, but I can never find where I read it! I'm pretty sure there's a random factor there as well, even if there is some control. Anyway, basically, it's random. Which is why some of us find it a little bit tedious and pointless...

I am not sure if you quoted the wrong message or not, but my calculations were for the staff at 700 flags, not the Titan's Challenge at 250. ^^"

You just have to decide at what point it is no longer worth it to you. 1,000e isn't too bad for most people (I imagine). I'm still shocked some people pay 80k for a race! I stop once the price is about 10k. It's almost 1000e a flag and that's when it isn't worth it to me.

I quite like the Derby, I think it's simple and easy to play.
I've got no interest in the Divine and I'm more focused on the BMIs we can buy (Hoping to stock up on some HOPs or TCS)

It is not that bad. I have seen far worse. I have not been playing seriourly and I still got 3 horses BLUPed with some care (and I will probably get other two soon) refraining to use aging points until I earned a whole lot all of a sudden in this promo.

When you want something bad, I will tell you about other horse game in which there is no such a thing as difficulty levels for competitions, so you are prety much competing with the top players since day 1. Actually, I think I won't tell you anyway because I don't want to advertise that game default smiley :-x

Well, you can buy many months of EC lodging for that money... something feels off when you spend the equivalent to 50 days of lodging in a game at the fair... I know the math might be right (if you invest 1000 in a derby race you may have a good return of investment) but it feels waaaay off. Or maybe I am overthinking it.

Can anyone tell me how much a Friggja would cost if purchased with flags only? I thought I had enough saved up but didn't know the price for an item doubles each time you get it, so now I'm trying to figure out if its worth it before I spend a bunch more flags...

1000 is honestly an insanely small amount of equus, so boarding really isn't a good comparison to make, as boarding is supposed to be cheap as it is a requirement, without a blanket, if you wish to keep your horses in perfect health. A good chunk of those items you can buy can easily go for 300000 equus in the exchange, which is the max price, which can easily pay off up to around 9 paid for races a day. Even though I may give this promo a whole lot of grief due to how repetitive and boring it is, even I can say that it has some items that are worth investing in the more expensive races for. default smiley :)

The total flag cost is 5,283,815 flags. Not sure what that would be in equus, but someone did all these maths a page ago, and apparently it'd take at least 15 days to even complete all the races you would need to get that many flags.
So basically, getting Friggja with flags alone is literally impossible in the timespace we have. default smiley (lol)

It allows you to trade 1 black market item you have in inventory for other black market items of equal value.

Flags for friggja fragments start doubling. It went from 80 to 160. I was impatient and bought another Titan challenge to get the last 50 fragments. I only had to buy about 600 to 700 fragments.

Very tedious and annoying, definitely one of my least favorite events, especially since it's not even remotely possible to get the divine during the natural course of the event, which I actually want for once...

That's the Themis' scales that allows you to trade in one item for items of the same value. The winged staff lets you buy one item off the Black Market instead of using passes or inventory. default smiley :)

The "Friggja in Titan's Challenge" is overlaying the buttons to donate and request bonuses.

I have managed to touch the very right most edge of the button to donate bonuses, but clicking on any part of the request bonus button takes me to the Titan's Challenge.

Any thoughts as to how to get around this?
Thanks

The issue has been reported. I was able to ask for help and give help through the mobile version though.

It seems to be fine for me. Has it been sorted?

If not, try zooming in or out. Also if you are on computer try squishing the window to different sizes and shapes: doing this might re-arrange things. Maybe turning a mobile/tablet between landscape and portrait might help too?
