[UPDATED] Player Held Contests - Rules

Player Contest Rules Clarification

We’ve received feedback from Moderators and the communities on multiple Howrse games requesting clarification of the rules for player hosted contests and giveaways, specifically with offering horses as prizes.

Addendum: We've updated this thread to be in sync with the rules recap thread posted last week.

Current rules

We allow players to host contests and giveaways according to the following rules:

  • You cannot require entrance fees or donations

  • You can give in-game prizes (Only those which can be done via the gifting options already within the game)

  • You cannot give Equus or passes as prizes

  • You do not have to give prizes

  • Your contest can only be posted on your presentation page or in your EC forum.

Review of rules

Some players want to offer horses as prizes and would like to know if this is allowed. We reviewed contests held on each version, and we identified the following:

On some versions, it has not been allowed for horses to be used as prizes; since the game does not include a tool for gifting horses. Selling a horse to a player costs them a fee to gain their prize. This falls within the Item and Pass Trafficking rules that are not allowed.

##UPDATED: Rule changes

As a compromise, we will allow players to offer horses as prizes so long as the cost of the horse is the minimum amount that can be set - 500e. Since this is also considered a private agreement between players, we will not support these transactions. Contests are entered at your own risk and it is up to the contest holders to deliver the promised prizes.

In addition to the contest rules mentioned above, we have added the following:

- You can offer a horse as a prize provided the cost does not exceed 500 Equus.
- The horse offered as a prize can have Black Market items.
- Contest holders can ask but not require that participants re-post their contest banners.

We no longer allow you to offer horses as prizes as there is no mechanism in the game to gift a horse to another player for free.

Players who do not follow the rules are exposed to sanctions. For any questions, we encourage you to ask us directly via "Contact Us."

I wonder if we pretend to like this change, Howrse will change the rules back? They always seem to do the opposite of what the players want and say.

Or if players are holding contests the prize can be a horse for 500e. Not breaking any rules then.

This is too bad, I wish howrse would try to find a compromise, for example, making a feature to gift horses! It could be limited to a few a week like the item exchange and everyone could be happy.

Yup! A few other folks have been thinking the exact same thing.

Howrse should really consider the fact that there is not a *single* player that is happy with this change. To watch it go down hill so fast and so rapidly is sad. I know the game was made about furthering horses. That being able to sell horses, exchanges items, and offer covers were all added for people to get rid of the things they no longer wanted. But, It turned into something great, a big community with a lot of heart. Why try to restrict it so far down that you have a handful of players left that will not be able to support the game?? If you want a game where you can do nothing but breed your own horses in your own little corner, why not just create another game? Why tear down what you have (even mistakenly) created??
Everyone understands stopping the players that have been cheating. But not being able to give away horses? Really?
Also, When Terms of Use is updated, a message goes out to all players. This is so players are not sanctioned for things that they are not aware of. So why was this not messaged out?? I am reading of sanctions that have been happening to contests, when the player holding them was not even made aware of the changes?? That is a low blow.

Do not even tell me to go to "contact us". That is just as shady. Howrse wants to tell everyone else something different, and they do not want it to be public knowledge. You know how businesses do not allow employees to talk about their salaries, because they are hiding who is getting paid more?? Yeah, it is the same thing.
Everyone is tired of blurred lines and "use your best judgement", Consider this: You are told by the government you can not paint your house a certain color. However, For legal reasons they cannot tell you what color you cannot use. That being said, You MUST paint your house a different color then it was, but the old color is not the color being outlawed. If you paint it the wrong color it gets burned down, So use your best judgement.
It is a riddle with no precise answer, and that is how howrse has been treating all of these "rule" changes and enforcement's.

I agree with this - I get quite a few PMs per day from friends, and none of them are happy with this new "rule." Plus all the posts in this forum show what a handful of us think. Even the original post only has one like, and most of the posts by players have multiple likes.

I think that this is funny because if you read the crossed out text in the update message, the first three words are "As a compromise." A compromise had been made between Howrse and the players, and they decided to take that away. Where's the care for us???

Waiting for a response via Contact Us, and I will make another post here once I've received a reply. I sent my feedback a few hours ago but I'm sure they are loaded with other responses just like mine. default smiley :s

This is ridiculous!! No one is happy with this and so many have quit the game. I am actually considering quitting now.
What about when you quit? Is that against the rules to give your horses away, hmm what's the other option oh I know, either send them to the safe heaven or stick them in direct sales where you have no clue where they could end up!
Well howrse so far you have lost A LOT of people due to this, might be loosing another soon.

What I wasn't to know is why didn't they do a poll to see what howrse community wanted

This is speculation, but I think it's allowed if you just say on your page "all horses 500e PM me which ones you want" and it's not a big formal giveaway, but I'm not sure. I'm probably wrong.

That is a good question!

But I guess if one is quitting perhaps one doesn't mind the sanctions?

Today is the perfect day for Howrse to proclaim all of these restrictive policies a joke, knowing the overall high level of disagreement from the community about them.

Take the opportunity please.default smiley (y)
