[Info] Cross breeders

Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

I posted on here a while back about X Breeding - I was given the understanding that when X breeding, with a 50/50 cross, the dominant breed will be the breed the stallion is.

I crossed a 25/25/25/25 mare with a 50/50 stallion with 0 breeds in common. The stallion is a brumby x selle cross and it shows as brumby. The two foals I just bred have come out as selle would this be a glitch? Or people in the last topic giving me the wrong information

Nope. What happened was the Brumby stallion had a pure Brumby father and bred to a pure Selle mare. So you ended up with a Selle/Brumby with Brumby being dominant as it was the father's breed. What happened here with your 4-way and 2-way is that it took it's grandmother's breed from its father and flipped the breed line up. I would probably go back and see about getting the original 2-way's breed list flipped, to where Brumby is on top and Selle on bottom.

If anyone else could explain it better, please do.

She's got the skills for Show Jumping, but she'd probably get a good number of her wins from Cross Country.

I bred this horse, but have no idea what to train her in? Any ideas?>>>

Maybe a medium level cross country horse? She'd be a decent show jumper, but the lusitano tanks the speed and that could be an issue. I'm working on a TB/App/QH cross and thought a little lusitano might improve dressage but the gain wasn't worth the loss in speed.

Yeah, I've been trying a lot of primarily Lusitano crosses, but they keep turning out ehhh. The best one so far was Friesian Cross and Selle, and those were still kind of eh. Thanks for the input! Any selle cross ideas? I have a pretty good selle mare and I dunno what to cross her with next. I can post her link if you want to take a look. default smiley :)

The best combination I found that stomps the best thoroughbreds out there are the following.
Breed a high pb tb to a high pb psh. Breed the resulting foal to a pb tb, but this time with tears. By the time you have finished training, bolding and Skilling it. You will have a very strong gallop stomper

Alrighty, so I decided to do a bit of experimenting,

I bred this Mare with this Stallion and got this Foal. The parents are twins, with KWPN, Aussie Pony and Selle with 37.5 KWPN, 37.5 Aussie and 25 Selle. I was expecting the resulting foals to be Aussie Ponies with the same percentages because the Dams breed order is
KWPN
Aussie
Selle

But I got KWPN foals. Why? I did assume that it would work similarly to how 50/50 splits do but I'm wrong? I don't know too much about the breeding and breed order/resulting breeds but I would like to get Aussie Ponies with these breed percentages. How would I do that?

Hi!default smiley ^) I want a crossbred that will be really good for trot competitions. I have a purebred Peruvian Paso mare that is 100 blupped. I need to keep the trot skill highest on the offspring, but improve the speed and dressage skills. Any ideas of a breed, or a crossbred combo I can use to my mare?default smiley :) Or do you have another advices?

Hmmm, I've attempted Tennessee walkers, an example shown below, unfortunately my mare was a crossbred herself so the friesian ended up in the mix as well. I do a lot of Lusitano crossing and unless you want dressage comps, don't mix with them! default smiley xd.

example of cross with friesian, paso, and walker: https://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=59578455

Some others to try would be French Trotter, Hackney, Standardbred, unfortunately none of them have particularly high gp, and paso's are the only breed made specifically for Trot races except walkers. So my advice would be to go walker I think. Here's a cheat sheet for skills and comps so you can look for yourself and see what you might be looking for specifically: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18adEg-FTsEw-qDgWrnX01pAHujfn2Q-wBsSewJOfKyo/edit?usp=sharing

Personally I would go for a Paso dominant walker cross, they have the higher gp's and are more suited to the races. default smiley :) Hope that helps!

P.S.
Don't go for a Lusi cross though, the trot skill isn't worth the speed decrease, I would know, I tried it and it crashed and burned....default smiley xd

Selle/KWPn crosses are great! They can find and win rosettes. I’ve breed plenty and love them! Easy to train too, since sellers and kwpn are trained the same way default smiley xd

Let me introduce you to Scattered Starlight The future number 1 in fjord stamina, and 5th or 6th in overall Fjord skills!

He should win a rosette or two in cutting comps, and i'm planning on breeding him with Wicked Wind who is the current #1 in selle stamina.

Also if other cross breeders need high stamina cross breed stallions to breed with I have quite a few, so feel free to pm medefault smiley :-))

I'm still new to the cross breeding side of things lol. I've just bred my TB mare to a Mustang and the colt has better genetics than what I was prepared fordefault smiley xd. I'm hoping to make him a pretty phenomenal barrel horse. Still not sure what discipline I want to base my breeding barn around. Trying to decide between barrels or cutting lol

How does the breed lineup/list of parents play into determining a foals breed?

The fathers breed will be dominant in an even cross, say 25/25/25/25 or 50/50. Other than the the breed with the highest percentage in the cross will be dominant.

For example my mare Wicked Wind is 25% Selle, 25% Gypsy, 25% Fjord, and 25% Arab. His father is A Selle x Gypsy vanner, the father was a selle, so he is the dominant breed. I breed him to my Fjord x Arab mare, with fjord as the dominant breed. So Wicked Wind is Selle dominate, because her father was.

Hope that wasn't to confusingdefault smiley :p

The foal will take the father's breed if both parents are purebred.

If the parents are both 50/50 of different breeds (say a AppyxTB father to a SellexKWPN mare) the foal will take the sire's second listed breed. It works the same if the parents are both 25/25/25/25 crosses of all different breeds.

Fuzzy Wuzzy is GV dominant.
His sire is Pacific Blue who is Selle dominant, but his genetics are listed as Selle x GV, so the foal is listed as GV.

Here is a foal that was bred from two parents that were both 25/25/25/25 crosses. The foal is listed as Chincoteague because the sire's second listed breed is Chinco

If you're working with even percentages, but the breeds between the two parents are the same, then the foal should take the dam's last listed breed.
William is an example. I had to test same breed crossing quite a bit because it was difficult to pin down exactly whose breed it was taking and from which slot.

It's also important to note that breed listing in the genetics tab is random when the percentages are even. The foal's dominant breed isn't always listed first. I bred William's parents, Jamie and Claire, multiple times and the breed order was different for each foal. Nifty to know if you're breeding multiple generations for a project and need a certain breed listed in a particular slot. Just keep breeding the parents until you get what you need.

I've got two new mixes today!

First we have Wayfarer!
He is 37% Fjord, 37% Arab, 12.5% Selle, 12.5% Gypsy.
12977gp, 17077skill.
He is ranked 6th in overall fjord skills, 2nd in Stamina, 53rd in gallop, 2nd in jumping, and 9th in dressage.

Next is 火焰 Huǒyàn
My first Fjord mix with over 13000Gp, out of the 229,967 fjords in the game less than 320 have over 13000gp, and all of them are team horses owned by the top two fjord teams, except one other, by mix breeder Jacey.
We will see how he turns out in the next couple days!

My best crossbred stallion is 50% shagna Arabian and 50% Thoroughbred Black Gold. My best crossbred mare is Whisper Black. She's half thoroughbred. She's also cross with mustang, lustino? And shagna Arabian.
They have between 8,000 and 9000 gp

My latest project, a Walker x Paso. She's already ranked in the top 100 for reining comp wins! I originally was planning on making her more of a trail gal, but reining is going along so well I decided to put that on hold.

So I have this horse whose breed order is KWPN 37.5, Aussie Pony 37.5 and Selle 25. It has a twin with reversed breed order Aussie, KWPN, Selle. I made the linked horse the dam and the twin the sire, but I got KWPN foals. I tried switching the sire/dam (which is their current sexes) and still got KWPN foals. I'm wondering why this is? As I was trying to get Aussie foals. I ended up going back to their parents, who were the same mixes/percentages and the same difference in breed order and I swapped the dam/sire and then got Aussie foals. So essentially out of a dam that is KWPN with Aussie P 37.5, KWPN 37.5, Selle 25 and a sire (twin of dam) that is KWPN with KWPN 37.5, Aussie P 37.5, Selle 25, I then got the Aussie Pony foals. I'm really curious as to what happened here and why the first linked horse and it's twin did not give me aussie pony foals at all?
