[Info] Cross breeders

Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

What are some of the top Barrel Racing and Reining breeds? Besides Marwaris, of course default smiley :)

I hear Mustangs are decent to use.

Side note, anyone interested in starting a more active cross breed group via Facebook?

From what I’ve seen Nokotas are pretty good.

Yeah, but not so much for Barrel or Reining. They're Trail horses due to their skill set of Dressage, Trot, and Jumping (not necessarily in that order).

Vanners seem to do well.

Long time no see, folks, here because I neglected to announce the birth of the new #1 shetland pony! His name is Eyes of the Void and he has been sitting in #1 for a couple of weeks so yess! He is my pride and joy.

Also getting a handle on my Warlander crosses again after a long absence, so that's been fun.

I meant horses whose top three skills are Stamina, Gallop, and Speed/Dressage

Your Barrel Racing breeds are Mustangs and Marwaris, and the Reining breeds are Lipizzans, Haflingers, and Irish Hunters.

A tip I recommend to anyone who may want to cross breed regularly is to go through the breed directories and make a chart listing the top 3 skills of each breed, or even listing all of the competitions and then the breeds whose skills match that comp. You'll have a few "oddball" breeds whose skills don't match up to any comp. It makes for a nifty cheat sheet whenever you're looking for breeds to cross withdefault smiley :)

I am thinking about doing something like this but with all the skills instead.

There should be a forum for that.

So, my TB/Wari cross, Nukhri:
1. I decided to go Classical.
2. He can enter, and has placed 2nd many times in, Rosette comps.
3. He excels at Dressage. Keeps getting Exploits.
My advice with those crosses:
If Marwari is dominant, do Classical as you’ll have much better luck with breed-specific comps.
If TB is dominant, do Western (Like I said before, you’ll have better luck in breed-specific).
Lastly, you might want to throw in some Reiner blood with the breed that won’t be dominant, to refine the skill set.

I have a Teke/Paint cross whose doing wonderfully. I have to finish Blupping him before I can breed him to his half sister (Arab/Paint). I'm trying to get all the horse breeds into one horse (excluding Donkey/Draft). Anyone done this before? Is the outcome horse any good at any competitions?

It depends if you're going to be adding one breed at a time (like a 12.5,12.5,25,50 cross) in which case the last breed added would have more sway over the genetics of the resulting foal and it would be good at, generally, the comps that type of breed usually dominates.

I did this a couple of years ago, and I know several other players have as well.

This is my All Breed Project. I'm working on an updated one as the Kerry Bogs were added a long while after she was born.

The stats are fairly evened out due to all the breeds thrown in there, so I don't think she'd do all that well in comps, even if her GP was higher. Hers is so low because I started my project with 350 GP foundations.

Sigh.

So many foals. So much time. All wasted on collectors >.>

I've been focusing on breeding her to Pony breeds lately. I find them more fun to do than all the Horse breeds as they seem to be the most common on the LB's right now. Anyone else doing any fun Pony crosses?
Khal is my main mare for crossing experiments at the moment.

I don't currently have a project right now. I need to do a fun one soon as I have all the needed supplies for it.

Any ideas on one? I want it to excel in low difficulty comps of some sort

Marwari/TB crosses excel at low level dressage and trot (and barrels)

I set up a skill set chart and I'm curious about crossing my 6's and 7's Hanovarian mares with some ponies. Skill sets match up pretty close with Aussies, Newfies, and Haflingers. I only have 1 6's Hano stallion for my 500s to 5's pony mares but he's not BLUPed and he's giving me trouble with comps.
