The NIB FAQ:

What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

Hi all - not sure if anyone will remember me now but I used to breed NIB paints back in 2011.
I've been dabbling with my foundies again seeing as my previous 5th gen is now not even anywhere near the GP of a 1st gen. Has anyone else been noticing funny skillset swaps or do I just have a glitchy foal?

Same parents but the filly has the normal paint speed/dressage/gallop top skills and the colt goes speed/gallop/dressage

Any ideas?

Took a look and that is indeed interesting. How far apart were they bred? I'm wondering if it could be a glitch as both parents have the speed/dressage/gallop in both skills and genetics yet too.

I'd be interested in if you bred another one if it turned out "normal"

I honestly haven't been paying attention to the GP on my new ones >.< so I couldn't even tell you.

Also just to let people know, most NIBBers won't want to breed outside of their group as their is a chance of that horse disappearing and it is considered dangerous to breed outside of the collective if you're building generations. So some smaller projects might be interested but most of us have been burned in the past using outside horses so stay away from it now unless we own them or someone we know/trust owns them that breed with us.

So... hi. I'm doing a couple things here on Howrse. The relevant one is going to be my NIB project. There are still a lot of things I have to learn, so I beg patience.

I'm focusing on Arabians and Thoroughbreds and will probably be doing a lot of crossbreeding to manipulate the skillsets. I kept my first stallion from signing up, though I put my original mare in the Safe Haven. But I did that so that she can live forever and show up on pedigrees with the name I gave her.

So...

1. I'm going to be looking for Arabians and Thoroughbreds to add to my program. Not sure how that's going to go with my limited funds. default smiley :)

2. I'm looking for a way to communicate more effectively with other Nibbers, since this forum doesn't notify me of replies.

3. I have not been able to figure out what it means to have a green star. Can someone explain that for me?

Another website I play on (dragcave.net) has a community that tends to cooperate a lot in terms of breeding. They generally prefer to avoid inbreeding, but it's a lot easier to do that in that game. The have groups that kind of work together and promise to not "kill" any parent dragons, so that lineages won't get messed up. It is that kind of mentality that made me decide to put Element in the Safe Haven rather than sell her or have her die. I still have some of her offspring, and I want to ensure their Pedigrees are controlled. What I'm getting at is are there any groupings that work together with common promises to do things a certain way? To protect people's lineages? I don't know if that even makes sense to anyone else, but I hope it does.

Feel free to add me as a friend and/or message me!

Cheers!
Em

Hi Emerald and welcome! I've sent you a message about your Pony.

We don't tend to deal with a lot of crossbreeding in this forum, as we're striving for purebred projects more than anything here but every NIB project is different!

The best way to search the sales would be to search for less than 5200 in GP, and purebred (if that's what you would like) and go from there default smiley :) Unfortunately there is not an easy way to search for foundations.

For number 2 I don't really have a suggestion as we're few and far between. Some of us visit here everyday and some of us don't for months.

3) a green star was the first purebred "star" on howrse. They now have different colors in your horses Genetic tab

And most breeders honestly just keep their hoard of foundations and other stock to keep the line from disappearing or sell it to another well known/trusted NIBBer.

With Element in the Safe Haven, her offspring should be safe, right? That was why I put her there. I hope that's right.

Thanks for the tips! I will message you back with a couple of questions I have that might not be allowed in the discussion. default smiley :)default smiley (l)

I messaged you back about the questions, but will answer this here as well. Most NIBBERs will choose to hold on to their stock whether it be by not playing with them anymore, immortalizing them, or letting them die. That way they always know what happened to the horse.

An opportunity for the new comers if someone is looking for another breed to play with NIBBing and even the old. I'm looking to cut back on the amount of Holsteiner foundations I have so I am looking here first before I release them to the 'public'. Let me know if anyone would be interested as I won't do anything with them selling wise to the public until the end of the month!

Remember not to post ads for horses for sale or covering offers ads, as is stated in the first post rules. I can have Admin review this and update us on what is allowed in this topic, as advertising is not allowed anywhere else on the public forums.

Would this be a good place to ask if there is a market for horses that have Ouranos and Gaia as grandparents for both the dam and sire? default smiley (o) If this isn't then where would a better place be?

Hey not trying to rile things up but I think there is a post somewhere in here that states that inviting people to pm you as you have extra stock was okay (I'm sorry I don't remember if it was an admin/mod) so getting confirmation from another admin/mod may be a good idea default smiley :)

@ Foxy I remember you and your amazing paint NIB program default smiley :) I used to be aspleycountrysecrets and then this username when I came back. I am now back for a third time now.

I am looking at getting back into my Quarter Horse NIB program and possibly Paints. Have some KNNs that are foundations which I haven't made my mind up about yet ...

Hey everyone, I'm not a NIB breeder but I do have some first gen horses in my breeding farm. They are all under the Affix Eysasha's Genesis. If you're interested in using any of them for breeding purposes please let me know! I will also give you the foals of my mares if you want to breed one of your stallions with them. We can work out logistics privately. I know it is difficult to find NIB horses so I just wanted to give ya'll another option and a larger breeding pool.

Hey please delete this if it's not allowed but I have a question about NIB bred with the new foundies with higher GPs. I was wondering why the list was so short as aren't there hundreds of horses being bred with foundie horses with the higher GP? For example the first horse born from my two foundie Mustangs would be a NIB horse right? And there's surely tons more like that so I was wondering why they're not listed.

Also on that note, I was wondering what the 2nd gen and 1st gen fables mean on the list of top NIB horses.

NIB horses are not related. So you can't breed your first 2 foundies together. They are the twins of Gaia and ouranos. I try to nib as much I can and buy foundies. I also like pastry divines for that reason.

So just to clarify a NIB would then be a horse whose parents are children of foundie horses owned by different breeders (since all horses have to come back eventually to a foundie horse)?

I don't follow your reasoning...

Ravenknight, I have to disagree with you. Any foundation is a horse born of ouranus and Gaia and those can be bred together as Oliver2 you realized all of them lead back to the same horses. The problem with the pastry horses is that they are different horses so offspring of the same pastry horse cannot be bred together. So yes, every starting player can basically create a first generation goal out of their starting two horses, which is why they supply a male and female.

Oliver2, the first gen and second gen are just categorizing which generation they are part of. And the reason why the list is so limited is that only submitted foals are added. Hope that helps default smiley :)

Regarding foals from Pastry divines - I got Yule log and Christmas pudding on au, where I am more active, before realizing I can only use one of their foals anyway, so they have become a lot less useful than I was hoping default smiley xd
(I will not use any horse with even the remotest chance of having disappeared parents - once bitten, twice shy!)
